Program Note: Agitate Ecstatic was first composed for performance at the Bowdoin Music Festival in 2005, and was later substantially revised in 2009. It can work either as a standalone piece, or as part of a three piece suite along with Frivolous Incinerate and Fluid Glances (see program note for Fluid Glances). Melody is rather unimportant in this piece which is all about texture and rhythm. The piano acts as the drummer of the ensemble, and the other instruments play in interlocking textures inspired by the sounds and techniques of rock and hip-hop.
