Noise Peal Extravagant

for five percussionists

Length: 6 minutes
Composed: 2004
Premiered:  November 8, 2004. Carnegie Mellon University. Pittsburgh, PA.

Program Note: Noise Peal Extravagant is based on three contrasting rhythmic patterns which are heard simultaneously in the opening of the piece. As the work progresses, each pattern is elaborated in its own section. The piece bears the strong imprint of rock and funk music and makes use of two full drum sets. The title is taken from a line in the Gertrude Stein poem “Yet Dish”.
